What is a Long Put Option Strategy? The long put option strategy is the probably the 2nd most simple and easy to understand option strategy there is next to the long call. It consists of buying a put option with the belief that the price of the underlying stock will fall significantly below the strike price before the option expiration date. Profit Potential? The profit potential when trading a long put is limited by the stock reaching zero. Whereas on a long call we have unlimited profit potential because the stock can rise indefinitely. Profit Formula How do we calculate our profit? We realize a Profit if: Stock Price is less than the Strike Price + Premium Paid Limited Risk (What is our Risk?) Our risk is simply limited to the price paid for the Put Option. For Example: If we paid $200.00 ($2 X 100) then $200 is our max risk.
