This is Brown roofed turtle (Pangshura smithii) its also called as mud turtle. In Urdu its called Bhura kechwa. It belongs to geomeydidae family. They are found in Indi, Bangladesh and Pakistan. In Pakistan there are 5 families and 15 species of turtles. The turtles which are found in sea are called as marine turtles and ones which are found in ponds, rivers, lakes and streams are called as terrapian turtles. In Pakistan fresh water turtles belongs to 2 families and 8 species. 1. black pong turtle. 2. Crown river turtle. 3. Brown roof turtle. 4. Indian roofed turtle. 5. Indian narrow headed soft shelled turtle. 6. Indian soft shelled turtle. 7. Indian peacock softshell turtle. 8. Indian flap shell turtle. If we talk about their reproduction, breeding season is from August to mid-November. Female lay 3 to 11 eggs near water soft side from which after 140 to 150 days babies hatch. Parental care is not there. Females leave after giving eggs. They lay eggs 2 times in a year. If we talk about male and female turtles, females are much bigger in size, male tail is longer and thicker from base. Lowe side of turtle shell is called plastrone and its curved in male. This is a female because its not having any curve. Now come towards its shape, body texture and colour. Upper side is called carapase. Central portion is having backbone. Its called brown shelled because of having more brown colour in shell. If we look at its feet they are webbed and it swims very well. Behind its eyes is orange red spot. Its omnivore and aquatic species. It likes to eat everything in water but, their fav food is plants inside water and they love to bask 2 times in the sun. Life span is 10 to 12 years. Conservation status is near threatened (NT). They are in danger. People sell them, in different countries they are consumed as food. Mostly Indian soft shell turtle is eaten as food. They are hunted for making diff medicines. You can also see fish sellers on street selling them in shoppers. Parents buy them for kids joy but leave them in unsuitable places and they die. Different chemicals are released in water from factories which is posing threat to our aquatic wildlife. We have to save these species and turtles.
