The Bulava (Polish name for the short mace or gada) is an excellent training tool. Right now, I am doing only thee types of minimalist workouts: Mace/Gada Day (light and heavy) Kettlebell Swing Day (light and heavy) Hill Walks The goal is to have 6 days of dedicated movement. The Gada is my upper body training and I alternate between heavy, lower rep work, and light, high volume, work. The kettlebell days are my lower body days. The training split is similar, but the volume will always be at least 100 swings. Hill walks are my conditioning. They are a dedicated hour of walking across the Tasmanian hills with a pack. I will modulate pack weights based on my recovery and energy levels at the time. Being a full-time student, business owner, and new dad makes recovery a priority. This simple system of training can be done in a short time-frame and with minimal (even homemade) implements. Both of the strength movements are great 'armour builders' to prevent injuries to the upper and lower bodies. Armour building and general physical preparedness are the foundation of functional fitness. Oh yeah, and it's fun. Remember fun? Workouts can be fun.
