On April 7, 1943, 22-year-old Marine Lieutenant James Swett climbed into his F4F Wildcat for his first combat mission. Fifteen minutes later, he had destroyed seven Japanese dive bombers and become an ace. Then his guns went empty, a rear gunner shot him down, and he nearly drowned trapped in his sinking fighter. This is the story of the only pilot to earn both ace status and the Medal of Honor on his very first day in combat. 👍 If this story gripped you, smash that LIKE button and SUBSCRIBE! 🔔 Every like helps us rescue forgotten WWII heroes from history's dusty archives.
