#ww2 #BattleOfBritain #luftwaffe On 15 September 1940, the Luftwaffe sent its largest daylight assault toward London, betting that elite escort tactics would shatter the RAF. This episode follows Oberleutnant Karl Weber of JG 26 through textbook close-escort geometry as Britain’s Chain Home radar and the Dowding System stacked fighters in layered interceptions over Kent and the Thames. We quantify the battle by the only metrics that mattered to pilots: escort minutes over target and bomber survival per sortie. Post-action records show the Luftwaffe losing about 56–58 aircraft versus 29 RAF fighters, a gap that forced daylight attacks to fade after this day. Availability, guided by sensors and controllers, beat perfection flown by hand. We reconstruct the fuel math, the range limits of the Bf 109E, and the repair and reserve constraints that turned skill into waste. The result is a human admission: when your doctrine cannot buy time, courage cannot close the distance. #RAF #ChainHome #DowdingSystem #JG26 #Bf109
