Uzbekistan stormed into the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Saudi Arabia 2025 final after an impressive 3-0 victory against 10-man DPR Korea at the King Fahd Sports City Stadium on Thursday. The young White Wolves - seeking a second title since 2012 - will face Saudi Arabia in Sunday’s final, with the hosts having beaten Korea Republic 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The semi-final had goals written all over, with both teams having scored 24 between them in the lead up and, as expected, the match got off to a pacey start with the sides pouring forward in search of an opening goal. Uzbekistan came close in the ninth minute, Abubakir Shukurullaev’s powerful header forcing Jong Hyon Ju into a sprawling save. DPR Korea tried to reply through An Jin Sok, whose mazy run took him past four players only for the ball to land safely in Uzbekistan goalkeeper Nematulloh Rustamjonov's arms. Uzbekistan then earned a penalty in the 26th minute when Sadriddin Khasanov was tripped in the box with captain Muminkhon Bakhhodirkhonov stepping up for the spot-kick. Bakhhodirkhonov shot straight at Hyon Ju and while the rebound was turned into his own net by DPR Korea defender Ri Kang Song, the effort was ruled out after a VAR review. Khasanov, however, set the game alight in the 31st minute, cutting inside his marker before firing a shot into the top corner to give Uzbekistan a deserved lead. Things got worse for DPR Korea in the 40th minute after they were reduced to 10 men when Kang Myong Bom received his marching orders for a second yellow card as Uzbekistan finished the first half with everything pointing in their favour. With the numerical advantage, Uzbekistan enjoyed more possession after the break and made that count in the 62nd minute as they doubled their lead through Jamshidbek Rustamov. The substitute controlled Shukurullaev’s perfectly flighted cross before finishing with a curling effort into the top corner for his third goal after coming off the bench. Three minutes later, Shukurullaev finally got his name on the scoresheet with a simple tap-in after great work from Khasanov, who teed him up to stab the ball into an empty goalmouth. DPR Korea forward Pak Kwang Song wasted a great chance to reduce the deficit in the 76th minute, fluffing his lines from close range. That miss summed up DPR Korea’s night, with Uzbekistan marching into the final after a stellar display. THEAFC
