A financier for al Qaeda leader harun Al Fadul was arrested by South African authorities in 2011. The financier was sent to the United Arab Emirates to raise US$1 million for a planned bomb attack. The location of the target was not clear, however, the terrorists mentioned a Jewish Centre in Cape Town during discussions. The plan was to include five suicide bombers.Leaked documents also showed that Samantha Lewthwaite, a British national known as the ‘White Widow,” arrived in South Africa in July 2008, but was deported to the United Kingdom almost a year later.Lewthwaite returned to South Africa using a fake passport in September 2009. Authorities believe she was in the Somali jihadist group Al-Shabaab and a key figure in planning a terrorist attack in Kenya. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Media Animation’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D animated news graphics that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health.
