With a heightened awareness of the need to create a resilient local food system amid climate impacts, Chicago’s food system has adapted and matured over the past decade with philanthropic support. From the community-led, participatory model of the Chicago Region Food System Fund to the impact investment approach for food and agriculture offered by Proofing Station to the long-term strategic grantmaking model of Food:Land:Opportunity, philanthropy and investment in the system have become much more collaborative, intentional, and responsive. Collaboration among funders and with food system practitioners is key because it is the only way to leverage philanthropic support into systemic change. The three-pronged approach, taking into account the full breadth of the system from farmers and workers to businesses to training and advocacy organizations, is the only way to fully support a blossoming, regenerative food system. Speakers: Alexandra Sossa, Bilingual Chief Executive Officer, FLAP Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project -Cortney Renton, Executive Director, Proofing Station -Lenore Beyer, Director of Conservation Initiatives, Kinship Foundation
