This is a low-lying and predominantly sparsely populated agricultural area surrounded by rivers and canals. In 1738, the eight mills belonging to the Hooge Boezem of De Nederwaard and in 1740 the eight mills belonging to the Hooge Boezem of De Overwaard were built. These windmills form the largest group of windmills in the Netherlands and they were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. NL - De Alblasserwaard is een Nederlandse landstreek, gelegen in het zuidoosten van de provincie Zuid-Holland. Het betreft een laaggelegen en overwegend dunbevolkt, agrarisch gebied omsloten door rivieren en kanalen. In 1738 werden de acht molens behorende bij de Hooge Boezem van De Nederwaard en in 1740 de acht molens behorende bij de Hooge Boezem van De Overwaard gebouwd.
