Scripture: Acts 13:13–52 Paul and his companions travel to Pisidian Antioch, where Paul speaks in a synagogue on the Sabbath. He gives a long sermon that retells Israel’s history, from God choosing Israel, to the judges, to King David, and explains that Jesus is the promised Savior from David’s line. Paul proclaims that: Jesus was rejected and crucified, fulfilling Scripture. God raised Jesus from the dead. Through Jesus, forgiveness of sins is offered. Justification (being made right with God) comes by faith, not by the Law of Moses. Many Jews and God-fearing Gentiles respond positively and want to hear more. The next Sabbath, a huge crowd gathers, which makes some Jewish leaders jealous. They oppose Paul and speak against his message. Paul and Barnabas respond boldly, saying: The message was offered to the Jews first. Since many reject it, they will now turn to the Gentiles, as God intended. This fulfills Scripture about being a light to the nations. The Gentiles rejoice and believe, while opposition grows among local leaders. Paul and Barnabas are eventually driven out of the region, but they leave behind disciples who are filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Big themes: Jesus as the fulfillment of God’s promises Salvation by faith, not law-keeping The gospel moving from Jews to Gentiles Joy and opposition existing side by side in the spread of Christianity
