12 eggs started hatching on Monday 8th May 2023, one egg did not hatch and seven chicks have not survived so far. This is more than likely due to the female parent having been missing since 16th of May. She would have helped to bring more food into the nest and have widened the nest bowl so as to stop chicks from piling up on top of each other. The male parent has been doing his best to keep the chicks supplied with food but has not been brooding them overnight or keeping the nest as well maintained as the female would have. As such these chicks are a little behind in their development and will probably take the full 21 days or possibly longer to fledge. Well stocked bird feeders are nearby. The optimal food for this species are Winter Moth Caterpillars. They do not eat worms. The birds that haven't made it are too big to be removed from the nest by the remaining, lone parent bird. He tried on the morning of 26th but couldn't fit through the entrance whilst carrying the corpse. This is a livestream from the wifi box featured on the channel earlier this year. As such it might be a little unstable and this is all a bit of an experiment. The livestream will not run through the night. Please bear with us while we explore this new bit of technology.
