Low effort families repeatedly send the message that it is too inconvenient to overextend themselves for other family members and they aren’t really worth the effort. It’s not the one or two examples I give here that make someone a low effort family member (I have also tried to teach my kids that although they Re extremely special the world can’t revolve around them because we have to consider others). These family members just can’t seem to reach past themselves to pour into others in the family to create deep, meaningful connections. They don’t show up in empathy, excitement, or action for one another. If one person stops making all the effort, the relationship withers away and dies.
