As he began to report, he was quickly surrounded and harassed by demonstrators. He was called 'the virus,' received the middle finger, and finally was chanted at: 'Fake news is non-essential!' Vesey later wrote that he was alarmed at the level of anger he faced while trying to share the protesters' story. Katie Couric and others in the media industry reached out to Vesey in support, but President Trump retweeted the video, calling the protesters 'great people.' Setauket Patriots, the group that organized the rally, later apologized to Vesey on Facebook for the way he was treated. Meanwhile, Long Island has reported more than 76,000 cases of COVID-19 and almost 4,000 deaths. #LockdownProtest #News #NowThis #NowThisNews Connect with NowThis » Like us on Facebook: http://go.nowth.is/News_Facebook » Tweet us on Twitter: http://go.nowth.is/News_Twitter » Follow us on Instagram: http://go.nowth.is/News_Instagram » Find us on Snapchat Discover: http://go.nowth.is/News_Snapchat NowThis is your premier news outlet providing you with all the videos you need to stay up to date on all the latest in trending news.
