Transcript: Hi, this Dr. Portuese in Seattle. Today we're talking about otoplasty. Otoplasty is a procedure that involves reducing the protruding ear on some patients. The protruding ear is created from a lack of the fold, the antihelical fold behind the ear and the incision that we perform allows us to place some sutures, permanent sutures, in that fold to recreate that cartilaginous fold. And then we sew the ear cartilage back to the side of the fascia on the back of the head so that the ears are less protruding. The procedure's usually performed under local anesthesia. It can be performed under general anesthesia, but most patients undergo local anesthesia. We just numb up the ears and do the procedure and it takes about an hour and a half, here in our outpatient surgery center.
