Recorded by Anglican Radio in August 1977 at St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney. All rights acknowledged. Soprano Anne Robinson, with St Andrew's Cathedral Choral Society conducted by Michael Hemans, with organist Allan Beavis. - - - - - - - The glorious singing voice you are hearing is my mother Anne Robinson, born in Sydney, Australia in 1935. She was taught by Constance Pickworth (who was herself a student of Nellie Melba), coached by the great pianist Henri Penn, and later taught by Valentine Price. She sang a wide repertoire from classical opera, lieder and modern theatre, to modern classical (she was chosen by Paul Paviour to perform the world premiere performance of his song cycle "Crazy Jane"). One of her great loves was singing oratorio. She performed with the Western Sinfonia Orchestra under Bransby Byrne, at St Andrew's Cathedral, and elsewhere as invited. Works she loved to perform were Bach's "St Matthew Passion", Mendelssohn's "Elijah", Haydn's "The Creation" and Handel's "Messiah" which she sang many times including three performances at the Sydney Town Hall. - - - - - - - Note: this recording has been digitised from decades old tapes which accounts for the atmospheric crackling.
