Close up of hospital windows STORYLINE: Pope John Paul II spent another night in Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome and was in stable condition on Tuesday morning. Speaking Monday evening, Italy''s Health Minster Girolamo Sirchia said the Pope''s condition is "greatly improved." Sirchia said the Pope is eating regularly and following rehabilitation procedures. Pope John Paul II has begun speech therapy following last week''s surgery to ease his latest breathing crisis, the Vatican said on Monday, without indicating when he might be able to speak in public or leave the hospital. Throat specialists, including one who attended the pope''s operation last Thursday to cut a hole into his windpipe, said patients like John Paul should be able to speak normally again, although not as loudly. But Parkinson''s Disease specialists said the debilitating neurological disease may have been a factor in the breathing crises for the 84 year-old pontiff. For the second time in less than a month, John Paul was rushed to Gemelli on 24 February with respiratory problems that the Vatican said were caused by a narrowing of the larynx.
