(27 Jul 2005) SHOTLIST 1. Wide shot press conference by family of Jean Charles de Menezes, Brazilian man who was mistakenly shot by British police on 22 July at Stockwell underground station, people taking their seats 2. Close up Bianca Jagger, human rights activist, at news conference 3. Mid shot (from left to right): Alex Pereira, cousin of Menezes (in grey shirt); Patricia da Silva Armani, cousin of Menezes; interpreter (in beige top) 4. SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Patricia da Silva Armani, cousin of Jean Charles de Menezes "Well my cousin had nothing to do with terrorism, nothing to do with that, neither him nor us, his family. An innocent man was killed. It was a very grave error that was committed on the part of the British police, and I hope that the British police and government will take suitable steps are taken against those policemen who shot my cousin." 5. Wide shot news conference 6. SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Vivien Figueiredo, Cousin of Jean Charles de Menezes "Jean Charles de Menezes was a very good person, who would always do things properly and in the right way. We understand that we (London, England and the world) are all now practically living in a war situation, and that the world is asking for peace but the police are there to fight crime and crime can not be fought with crime. Extermination cannot be fought with extermination." 7. Reporters 8. SOUNDBITE: (English) Bianca Jagger, Human rights Activist "I am here because I feel that it is important that we not only condemn the killing of Mr de Menezes, but that we think as well that we can not accept that this mistake be committed again, as I have heard some people say that it may happen. I am here to appeal to people in government and those who enact the laws in this country and members of parliament and others to have a serious discussion about the policy of shoot to kill." 9. Wide shot press and family members STORYLINE: The family of the Brazilian man killed by police on 22 July at Stockwell underground station held a news conference in London on Wednesday, as they prepared to repatriate his body. 27-year-old Jean Charles de Menezes was shot dead last Friday as he fled from police at Stockwell tube station in south London. He was shot eight times - seven bullets direct to the head - after police followed him from Tulse Hill in south London. Four of de Menezes's cousins spoke out at a joint press conference in north London before flying his body home. The family insisted that Mr Menezes did not jump the barrier at the underground station, nor was he wearing a heavy jacket as was reported at the time. All four members of de Menezes's extended family called for the banning of the shoot-to-kill policy and said the war on terror must be fought with peace. His cousin, 22 year old Vivien Figueiredo described the 27-year-old electrician as a "extremely honest" person who lived life to the full and never strayed. Patricia da Silva Armani, 31, stressed that their cousin had always lived within the law. Human rights activist Bianca Jagger also appeared at the news conference to voice her support and question the government's shoot to kill policy. A vigil to mark one week since de Menezes's death will take place at 5.30pm on Friday in Parliament Square, central London. An inter-religious faith service will be held at Westminster Cathedral, central London, to coincide with his funeral in Brazil.
