Mattel Logo History (Featuring: Britt Allcroft Company, Gullane Entertainment / Bumper Films / HiT Entertainment) 1) Britt Allcroft Company Britt Allcroft (born Hilary Mary Allcroft Coote; 14 December 1943 – 25 December 2024) was an English screenwriter, producer, director, and voice actress. She adapted Wilbert Awdry's The Railway Series in the form of the children's television series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (later re-titled Thomas & Friends). She created Shining Time Station (with Rick Siggelkow), Mr. Conductor's Thomas Tales, and Magic Adventures of Mumfie. She also wrote, co-produced, and directed the film Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000). 2) Gullane Entertainment Gullane Entertainment Limited was a British independent production company which produced children's programming, including Thomas & Friends (1984–2021), Shining Time Station (1989–1995), and The Magic Adventures of Mumfie (1994–1998). The company was purchased by HIT Entertainment in 2002, and went defunct within the same year. As of today, most of Gullane's library is currently owned by toy company Mattel as a result of their subsequent acquisition of HIT Entertainment. 3) Bumper Films Bumper Films, Inc. was a children's stop motion animation studio based in Weston-super-Mare, United Kingdom. They were best known for producing the original series of Fireman Sam, which aired from 1987 to 1994 in the UK. They also produced Joshua Jones, which aired briefly during 1992, Star Hill Ponies, which aired from 1998 until 2002, and Rocky Hollow, which aired from 1983 to 1987. After finishing production on Star Hill Ponies, the company became dormant. A stake in the Fireman Sam brand was sold by owners S4C to Gullane Entertainment in December 2001. 4) HiT Entertainment HIT Entertainment Limited (stylised as HiT) was a British-American entertainment company founded in 1982 as Henson International Television, the international distribution arm of The Jim Henson Company, by Jim Henson, Peter Orton, and Sophie Turner Laing. Orton alone took over the company in 1989 after learning Henson intended to sell the company to The Walt Disney Company. HIT owned as well as distributed children's television series such as Thomas & Friends, Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder, Pingu, Barney & Friends, and Angelina Ballerina. HIT Entertainment was one of several partner companies alongside NBCUniversal, PBS, and Sesame Workshop that founded PBS Kids Sprout; many of HIT's shows aired on the channel as a result. On 1 February 2012, HIT Entertainment was acquired by Mattel, as Mattel was initially only interested in the Thomas & Friends brand in its acquisition, according to Deadline Hollywood. Mattel absorbed the company on 31 March 2016 into its then newly created division, Mattel Creations. HIT had a brand initiative called The Little Big Club, to feature some of the company's characters in live events held at shopping malls. 5) Mattel a) Mattel Creations Mattel Films is the film production division of Mattel originally formed on October 16, 2013, as Mattel Playground Productions as part of Mattel Global Brands, a unified media structural and strategy unit.
