Vlog 14 is devoted towards unpacking the subjugated narratives pertaining colourism. I will delineate my stance on colourism from my perspective as an Indian man. Colorism, or ‘skin color stratification’ can be defined as a process that privileges light‐skinned people of color over their darker counterparts. Colourism is the byproduct of racism/white privilege and takes shape of covert and/or overt forms of internalised racism. I invite you to watch Vlog 13 prior to Vlog 14 as it is an extension from it. Colourism is fundamentally enacted by people of colour, including white people. Lighter skinned coloured people are more advantaged than disadvantaged compared to their dark-skinned counterparts. The intensity of the disadvantage is far more complex and intricate. The resulting outcome is typically debilitating and damaging. The colour complex is an international social/cultural problem and needs to be given precedence. My journey of colourism is still work in progress. Featured in the vlog is the beautiful, brilliant and bold Francisca narrating on colourism from her perspective/heritage. She is a role model to many. Recommendations to debunk and demystify the perpetuation of colourism have been offered for your consideration. Don’t just talk, rather act upon it and embrace it with diligence. And I have a little surprise for you ALL at the very end. 🌈 Onwards and Upwards, Resh Ramasamy 🦄🦄🦄
