Just turned the camera on to show you what a bad stator looks like. They can look a lot worse then this one, but you can tell from the burned ropes and discolored wire that it has over-heated. This engine was used to repower another Storm Responder. Video link: • Blown Generator Engine Swap Generator Model# 030235 Stator Part# 191042AGS The below does NOT apply to inverter generators, but most other current portable brushed generators. 1) Generally a rotor should ohm out between 7-70 ohms. 2) Generally a stator should ohm out between 0.3-0.6 ohms. 3) A generator not producing 120v A/C should still be outputting between 1-10 volts, unless residual magnetism is lost or the stator is bad. 4) Testing with a fused lead from a 12v battery to the brushes is a good way to test the health of the rotor and stator. When testing be sure to get the polarity correct. The outlet output should be between 50-100 volts while applying the 12 volts if the stator and rotor are healthy. This will also restore residual magnetism. NOTE: only apply the 12 volts while the generator is running. Do apply the 12 volts long enough to read the outlet voltage.
