Whittle Kodama are spirits in Japanese folklore that inhabit Tree's. Their depiction in Studio Ghibli movies are what we're imitating with this carving. This is a knife only tutorial on a 2.5 inch piece of 1x1 basswood. They're pretty easy to do, very attainable for a beginner carver.
