English Translation: I took this picture with the sun of Sulaymaniyah reflecting into my eyes. I couldn't see anything. I didn't know this man was posing for me. I just wanted to take of photo of his store. I wanted to remember a place where I felt alive. This was one of a hundred stores on the street, in the heart of Sulaymaniyah, but I liked this one the most. After I took the photo, I went deeper into the city. I mean, I went below the street. Here, I entered a money exchange or something like that. So many men were shouting, holding money in their hands. They were shouting into the phone, shouting at each other, shouting because what they were saying was important. I felt that this was the heart of Sulaymaniyah. This place had enough energy to power the whole city. Then I went back onto the street. This city felt old and new. The streets were old but the life flowed through them like a raging river. I felt comfortable here. It was easy to imagine that I was in a desert city in America. Like America, the people here had big dreams. They weren't going to rest. They were going to shout. They were going to live. When I got back to my hotel I looked through all my photos of the day. I was surprised to see this man looking at me. His strength, his tradition, his pride, his store, his life, were all there in this photo. He wasn't shy. He was standing tall in his life. He was everything that this city was. Sometimes I look at this photo to remember to stand tall. To remember who I am. I hope I will come back to Sulaymaniyah again. If I do, I will show this man his photo and thank him for it, and everything it's meant to me. #StreetPhotography #KurdistanLife #KurdishCulture #CityExploration #TravelKurdistan #KurdishStories #KurdishTravel
