The talk-doc by Unsung India Foundation opens in Changthang, eastern Ladakh’s vast and fragile high-altitude plateau. Sweeping landscapes stretch endlessly under cobalt skies, where icy winds move across grasslands dotted with grazing pashmina goats—the lifeline of Ladakhi nomads. In this stark yet sublime terrain, nature and survival exist in delicate balance, shaped by centuries of nomadic wisdom. Set against this backdrop, this talk-doc film unfolds as a conversation-driven journey with Konchuk Stanzin, Councillor from the Chushul region of Ladakh. Through an intimate talk-doc format, he reflects on his personal connection to Changthang and his deep responsibility toward protecting its land, people, and culture. Rather than speaking in abstractions, Konchuk Stanzin grounds his ideas in lived experience—of winters endured, borders watched, and traditions carried forward. The dialogue explores his sustained efforts in conserving biodiversity and cultural heritage in eastern Ladakh, where climate change, migration, and economic pressures threaten fragile ecosystems. He speaks about initiating craft centres for pashmina rearers, designed to empower nomadic communities by strengthening local skills, adding economic value, and preserving traditional craftsmanship linked to pashmina wool. A core thread of the talk-doc focuses on Konchuk Stanzin’s advocacy for preserving Ladakhi nomadic life as a matter of national importance. He articulates how nomadic communities of Changthang are not only custodians of the landscape but also play a crucial role in safeguarding India’s sensitive border regions with China and Pakistan. Their continuous presence, mobility, and knowledge of the terrain form an invisible yet vital line of defence. Through reflective dialogue and lived insight, the film presents Konchuk Stanzin as a voice from the plateau—speaking for a land where culture, conservation, and sovereignty are inseparably intertwined.
