CINCINNATI (Sydney Benter) - The family of the black, 12-year-old Cleveland boy who was shot and killed by a white officer condemned a decision by a grand jury not to indict the officers involved. The family of Tamir Rice urged those who shared their views to express themselves peacefully. One such expression took place at Findlay Park in Over-The-Rhine where the group Black Lives Matter held a rally. It had only been a month since Black Lives Matter Cincinnati last hit the streets in protest. That was after officer involved shooting deaths in Chicago and Minneapolis. Tuesday, Dec. 29, they were demanding changes after the grand jury's decision not to indict officers for Tamir Rice's death. The 12-year-old was shot and killed by Cleveland police Officer Timothy Loehmann. He was being trained by Officer Frank Garmback. They responded to a report of someone with a gun in a park. The Cuyahoga Country prosecutor said the officers didn't realize Tamir was a child or that the gun he had was a toy. Black Lives Matter Cincinnati wanted the prosecutor fired and the case into Tamir's death re-opened. They said the grand jury decision sent a dangerous message. Brian Taylor, of Black Lives Matter Cincinnati, said, "To us, this is completely within the law; so much so that a trial is not even warranted. And that's outrageous for anybody with two eyes you can see a young man shot, young kid, shot in less than two seconds." Protests over the grand jury decision continued in Cleveland where the city's mayor said he won't tolerate any violence. City leaders also said they won't be pressured by outside influences while conducting an administrative review now that the criminal investigation was complete.
