The cord abnormalities on their morphological variation are explained in this video. In the Battledore Placenta, the cord is inserted through the margin but if it is low lying then it could be compressed by the fetal body parts and may have fetal anoxia. In velamentous insertion of the cord, it is inserted through the membranes it becomes dangerous if it is low lying as the condition causes vasa praevia when the vessels coming previously, fetal death may occur sometimes with the rupturing of the membrane because vessels also rupture. The Cord may long up to 300 c.m. and may be short as 20 c.m. or less than that. Long cord causes true knots sometimes or there may be false knots due to the accumulation of Wharton's jelly or the kinking of the vessels. Long cord forms a loop around the neck and body part or may prolapse. A short cord may delay the labour process. On the basis of the no. of vessels, there may be 2 vessels that are single umbilical artery or maybe 4 vessels, but these are the rare ones.
