Why do we still imagine the Black Panther Party as overwhelmingly male when, by 1969, two-thirds of its members were women? In this class of Black Panther Party 101, I examine how black women reshaped the Black Panther Party from within and how centering them changes our understanding of the Party’s political evolution. Drawing on the scholarship of Robyn C. Spencer, this episode situates women as central organizers, strategists, communications architects, and national leaders.
