NAGA CITY – As Naga City celebrates the Peñafrancia Festival 2025, Caceres Archbishop Most Rev. Rex Andrew Alarcon reminds devotees and pilgrims to maintain the solemnity of the Traslacion procession on Friday, September 12, 2025. The procession marks the start of the festivities and the nine-day novena in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the patroness of the Bicol region. During the Traslacion procession, the image of “Ina” will be transferred from the Old Shrine of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and National Shrine to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral. “It is a procession, it is prayer. Hindi siya parade actually. Hindi siya, it’s not performance. But it is prayer, it is thanksgiving. It is also asking for thanksgiving and it is also a witness to our faith,” Alarcon told ABS-CBN News. “This is but a reminder. So let’s do our best to keep it solemn and meaningful because we have come here for that to show our faith, our devotion. So that by the witness of our lives and by joining the procession, we can attract others to the Lord not by coercion, but by attraction,” he added. The Caceres Archbishop encouraged devotees and tourists to visit Naga City, also known as the Pilgrimage Capital of the Bicol Region, to join the Peñafrancia Festival. “This year, our theme is Mary Our Lady of Peñafrancia, mother to all. She embraces us with her son Jesus because we are all her children,” Alarcon said. “So please come and celebrate with us and join us as we offer thanksgiving for God’s continued blessings through the intercession of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. Viva la Virgen. Viva el Divino Rostro,” he added. Earlier in the day, Alarcon along with Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and local security officials led the mastering and blessing of the troops to be deployed for the Peñafrancia Festival. Over 3,000 personnel from various units will be deployed to ensure safety and security during the festivities. Classes in all levels for both public and private schools are suspended on September 12, 13, 17, 18, 19 and 20 ‘to ensure orderly participation of students and teachers in the religious and civic activities of the city.’ Work in local government offices in Naga City are also suspended on September 12, 18, 19 and 20 except those with essential operations, including security, emergency response and health care. The Naga City government expects an influx of devotees and tourists during the nearly month-long celebration. Last year, over 900,000 devotees gathered for the Traslacion of the Divino Rostro and Our Lady of Peñafrancia. A total of 1.5 million devotees and pilgrims joined the fluvial procession along the Naga River. The fluvial procession will take place on September 20, while the solemnity of Our Lady of Peñafrancia will be on the following day. #Peñafrancia2025 #Traslacion2025 #OurLadyOfPeñafrancia #VivaLaVirgen #NagaCity #Bicol #ABSCBNNews #TVPatrol
