Kodomo Kabuki Asakusa (Children Kabuki) - Ehon Taikoki Amagasaki Kankyo 尼ヶ崎閑居

Asakusa Shrine has kodomo kabuki (children's kabuki) at the end of March where children of different ages try their small thespian hands at Kabuki drama. Last year, they performed Act X of Ehon Taikoki - Amagasaki Kankyo which is a play about the 13 days after the death of Lord Oda Nobunaga in 1582. Oda was a warlord working to unify the wartorn country when he was killed by his vassal Akechi Mitsuhide. 13 days later he was defeated by the capable Oda general Toyotomi Hideyoshi who went on to complete his master's plan of unification. Amagasaki Kankyo is an historical fiction of the events with the names and situations changed to avoid government censors since the Tokugawa Shogunate was associated with the historical events depicted. Akechi is Takechi and Hideyoshi is Hisayoshi and Act X takes place at a fictional battle at Amagasaki.
