Grade 4 and 5 learners at Higher Hope Primary School in Walvis Bay have been sent home due to a lack of water at the school. Frustration continues to grow among parents at Higher Hope Primary School after they were informed that their children cannot continue attending classes due to a lack of working toilet facilities. Parents say they were told toilets were built, but water connection issues make them unusable. School Principal Monde Kolofu said learners and teachers were forced to cross the road to use facilities at another school last year, affecting teaching time and posing safety risks. "Our time already is cut because we have the platoon system, so we do not teach for 40 minutes per period as the curriculum requires us, so we have to cut to accommodate the afternoon classes. Currently, learners and teachers must travel to the new school to use the toilet and drink water, and we believe this situation cannot continue this year." The school has since written to the inspectorate requesting urgent assistance, but no timeframe has been provided. "There is only a temporary water meter, which is there, which is also under the contractor's name. So the Ministry of Education directorate will have to change that water meter to apply for a permanent one with the municipality of Walvis Bay, and then we can use the water. The connection is done for the sewer and the toilet and the buildings; it's already done." #NBCNews #nbcdigitalnews #nbcDSTV282 #nbcGOtv20 #nbcPlusApp
