Are your Final Cut Pro libraries taking up too much space on your Mac? Curious how to find out what specific parts of your library, event and/or project are consuming the most space, and how to clear them out? In this Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) tutorial, I'll cover a few different ways you can determine how much space is being taken up by items like render files, analysis files, transcoded media, etc. This includes in Final Cut Pro itself, through Finder on your Mac, as well as through the Terminal app for those that are more comfortable with the command line. I'll also discuss how these different files can be deleted from the same three options above (in Final Cut, Finder, and through Terminal), as well as the different caveats to each cleanup method, and what you'll want to keep in mind when using them. If you have any questions, let me know in the comment below! 0:00 - Intro, the challenges of saving space with FCPX 0:39 - FCPX: Find what's taking up space 2:34 - FCPX: How to delete render files (and caveats to this) 4:59 - Finder: Find what's taking up space, and how to delete 6:01 - Terminal: Find what's taking up space 8:48 - Terminal: How to delete render files 10:20 - Terminal (Bonus): Check total space on all FCPX libraries 10:52 - Conclusion Some example commands used in the video, run in my macOS Terminal (macOS running zsh). Be sure to replace the file path examples with the actual path for the files/folders your targeting (e.g. your username, library name, event, etc.): To see how much space items in a given directory are taking up: du -hs /Users/username/Movies/library.fcpbundle/event/* | sort -h To remove a specific directory (e.g. Render Files): rm -Rf /Users/username/Movies/library.fcpbundle/event/Render\ Files ============ My Current Kit: ============ Cameras & Lenses: Sony a7S III: https://amzn.to/3Gd87kK Sony a7 IV: https://amzn.to/3g3Ipoq Sony a7 III: https://amzn.to/3GcEX5x Sony 20mm f/1.8 G: https://amzn.to/3AE7pMt Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm f/1.8: https://amzn.to/3r6Lo5M Sony 24-70 f/2.8 GM: https://amzn.to/3HfLIoy Sony 70-200 f/2.8 GM: https://amzn.to/3He70Ts Audio: Rode VideoMic NTG: https://amzn.to/3AJwTrW Tascam DR-10L: https://amzn.to/3AIRA7l Zoom H6: https://amzn.to/32HCgep Lighting: Aputure LS 60x: https://amzn.to/3Gc04og Aputure Amaran P60c: https://amzn.to/3ob7qm6 Aputure Amaran AL-F7: https://amzn.to/3g3IzMy Aputure MC: https://amzn.to/34l8DzS Tripod/Monopod: Manfrotto 290 Xtra 128RC: https://amzn.to/3o8bPpV iFootage Cobra C180-II: https://amzn.to/3r8kfPY Affiliate Disclaimer: The above links to products may contain affiliate links, which may earn me a small commission as an Amazon Associate.
