How does DNA matching work? www.dnagenics.com DNA matching, also known as DNA testing or DNA analysis, is a process used to determine the genetic relationship between two individuals. It can be used to determine paternity, maternity, and other familial relationships, as well as to identify individuals for forensic purposes. To perform DNA matching, a sample of DNA is collected from each individual, usually in the form of a cheek swab. The samples are then analyzed in a laboratory, where the DNA is extracted and specific regions, called markers, are compared between the two samples. These markers, which are inherited from an individual's parents, are used to determine the likelihood that two individuals are related. If the markers are similar, it is likely that the individuals are related, while if the markers are different, it is unlikely that the individuals are related.
