Mercado 23 Okay, so, Mercado 23's name is pretty straightforward. Cancun's neighborhoods are numbered, way up into the hundreds, and it's just the market in the northeast corner of neighborhood 23, behind the main bus station. It's not huge, mostly locals shop there. The produce places in the middle are the biggest, and they sell huge veggies. North of that are the meat stalls – chicken, fish, beef, the works. Around the center are souvenir stands, bakeries, candy shops, and so on. The "restaurants" are all along the south side. If you're after cheap souvenirs, this is the place. Same stuff as the fancy Hotel Zone, but way cheaper. And if you're staying a while like us and need fresh produce, it's better than the big supermarkets.
