1989 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer I6 4.0 4X4 Renix The engine gets some more stuff installed as I pull this overhaul to a close. The head gets installed along with the push rods, rocker arms, and valve cover. Everything is pretty straight forward. I got the head gasket in a full engine gasket kit and used some thread sealant for the front most driver side head bolt that goes through the coolant jacket near the thermostat. Don't forget to preinstall the rear most driver side bolt because part of the body blocks access once the head is installed. The torque specs for the cylinder head bolts are 22 ft-lb, 45 ft-lb, and 110 ft-lb except for the sealant bolt which only get 100 ft-lbs at the end. The push rods were still aligned from when I took them out. They looked straight so they were reused. The rocker arms went on a little crooked so my dad used a large flat head to pry the bridges back into shape. They only get 19 ft-lb. The valve cover was sanded, sand blasted, and then painted with self-etching primer and engine enamel paint. The valve cover gasket was the high quality rubber one with metal supports. The bolts all went on pretty easy except the one in the back. I needed a combo of swivels and extensions to get that one good. Overall, it wasn't too difficult.
