This video shows the Duplicated ureter or Duplex Collecting System with stones. Having a duplex kidney is not always bad. In fact, some people never know they have it. However, it can cause problems. One example is a condition known as vesicoureteral reflux, in which urine in the bladder flows back into the ureter and can reach the kidneys. Duplicated ureter or Duplex Collecting System is a congenital condition in which the ureteric bud, the embryological origin of the ureter, splits (or arises twice), resulting in two ureters draining a single kidney. It is the most common renal abnormality, occurring in approximately 1% of the population. A bifid renal pelvis is a congenital renal tract abnormality characterized as a duplication of the ureter (two ureters) that unite before emptying into the bladder. The duplex kidney is the duplication of the ureter tube, which drains urine from the kidney to the bladder. The condition results in two tubes rather than the normal single ureter tube for each kidney. ... Medical concerns relate to obstruction of urine flow or urine flowing back into the kidney The incidence of the duplex renal collecting system and ureter ranges from 0.5 to 3.0%. ... Patients with ureteral duplication may potentially have urinary stones, ureterocele, vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and obstructive uropathy.
