We flew our drone over the Demoiselles Coiffees in the Hautes-Alpes, and it landed in a tree. What started as a rescue mission turned into the closest encounter we've ever had with these 80,000-year-old stone columns, a wild chamois, and one very questionable rest stop choice. Demoiselles Coiffees (Pontis, Sauze-du-Lac area) are hoodoo formations carved by glacial erosion in the Durance Valley. Most visitors see the main site near Pontis, but there are hidden spots with zero crowds.
