ESR Cyber Series iPhone 17 Case Review – 30 Drop Tests Prove Bigger Isn’t Better (7 of 50)

Oversized corners, fake grip strips, and more bulk than any case I’ve tested so far — the ESR Cyber Series screams “tough.” But after 30 drops, the data says otherwise. This is one of those cases that’s all show, no substance. I'm on a mission to find the best iPhone 17 Cases out there. I'm planning on reviewing 50 cases in order to figure out the Top 5. For the iPhone 17's, I've updated my scoring system to include accelerometer/gyro level drop test data to figure out which cases will actually protect your iPhone. ESR for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case with Stash Stand, 7X Military-Grade Drop Protection with Camera Control, Shock-Absorbing Phone Rugged Cover Review -Looks like a tough case -Has substantial oversized corners -also has the kickstand built in...remember in the previous case that we learned these aren't good protection wise? -If you've been staring at cases for a while, you're probably thinking this is a Otterbox Commuter knockoff right? -iPhone sits in a TPU sleeve, wrapped in a PC shell -kind of a mix bag when it comes to grip -TPU sleeve is grippier than the PC shell -the edge of the shell does have a grip strip -it looks grippy but physically isn't -this is a beast of a case -weights 79g, the avg. is around 45g -and for bulk, will almost double the size of your iPhone (97%) -so in my drop testing -for corner drops, the iPhone logged 15.5G's -that's 50% higher than average -yikes -for the rate of rotation after a drop, it was average -but because of the giant air bags -it took a long time for the case to settle -46% worse than average -the overall total force going into the iPhone? Was only worse by 6% -so despite eating a giant initial hit, the case does a good job absorbing the rest of the impact -for face drops -the case didn't fail BUT -the initial hit was 69% higher -the TPU edges kept the iPhone bouncing -and the overall force was 66% higher than the average case -yikes -for camera lump drops -unlike the previous ESR case, the whole back is rigid -BUT the initial impact was higher than average -the settling rate was 30% worse -and the total force going into the iPhone from the lump was 18% worse -Soo....bigger has to be better right? -For this case, no -this case is all smoke and mirrors, looks tough but the iPhone takes a bit more punishment than the average iPhone case -So with the bulk, it has to have lots of protective features right? -the corners look massive BUT -there are massive air pockets -biggest in my collection of cases -the corner is around 4.3mm thick -the air pocket is only 1.9mm thick -on the inside back of the case, there's some foam, -technically called InnerPORON? -does it do anything in real drops? Keep watching -for rigidity, despite having a PC back, the lack of a full PC edge -it only took 12.7mm to bend it 8mm -that's 57% worse than the average case -that's a small red flag for me -ESR added this hatching on the Magsafe rings -doesn't add to functionality of Magsafe -for magsafe, takes 11.5N to pull off a magsafe accessory, 12.6 N to push -overall, it's 19% stronger than average -buttons are built into the TPU edge -feels squishy -except for the camera control button, it floats -the edges are tall, very noticeable when swiping -port has cover -DOEST IT FIT BIG CABLES -speaker grills are covered with a film of some sort -DOES IT BLOCK SOUND?
