This is a live, one-take performance of my original song Velvet Voice, recorded in my garage using the natural acoustics of the space. It was early in the morning and my voice wasn’t fully warmed up yet, so in the bridge I chose to flip briefly into head voice rather than risk strain or cracking by pushing chest voice too hard. Stylistically, I would have preferred to stay in chest later in the day, but vocal health comes first, and part of live performance is making those calls in the moment. Aside from that, this is one of my favourite performances of a song that’s very close to my heart, and probably the most romantic and smooth piece I’ve released so far.
