Department S are delighted to announce that we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of seminal post-punk new wave chart hit "Is Vic There?" with a brand new re-recorded version which will be available on pre-sale from 17th January 2022, to be released on 16th April 2022 to coincide with the anniversary of the band's first Top Of The Pops appearance. The track will be available as a digital download but tantalisingly there will also be a LIMITED EDITION of 500 copies as a 7" vinyl single released through Cadiz Music. As it's the 40th anniversary, all copies of the single will be issued in RUBY VINYL, picture sleeve (design referencing the original single sleeve, front cover shown), each sleeve individually hand numbered and fully signed by the band. This will be the only pressing of this single and we expect demand to be high so we strongly recommend you pre-order your copy to avoid disappointment. Once they're gone, they're gone! This recording of "Is Vic There?" uniquely captures the band's history and its present-day incarnation; not only does it feature the current line up but also boasts a one-off, special guest star appearance by none other than original Department S guitarist and composer of THAT riff- the one and only Mike Herbage! As if that wasn't enough, the B-side of the vinyl edition will feature an exclusive new song from the forthcoming Department S album- more information on this to follow! This artefact is a lovingly crafted tribute to a song which has endured as a post-punk new wave favourite for the last 40 years by the band who are honoured to still be playing it today... The question still on everyone's lips, 40 years on- "IS VIC THERE?" NOTE: the eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that it is actually 41 years since the band appeared on Top Of The Pops with "Vic" on 16th April 1981. Yes, it should have been out last year. But, like Euro 2020 and the Beijing Olympics, our schedule was hit by Covid restrictions, so here we are. We didn't want to miss the opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this classic hit song though, so we hope you'll forgive us for being late!
