From Theory To Practice: Practical Steps to Transform Conservative Policy

Pepperdine School of Public Policy and The American Project, hosted a three-day conference in June 2018 entitled, “Toward a Conservatism of Connection: Reclaiming the American Project” which first examined the crisis in conversation with researchers, followed by a look at the "Conservatism of Connection" through the lenses of public policy, religious liberty, and foreign policy. Panelists included leading academics, pundits, and activists. Session Description: At the heart of American conservatism has been a balance (and in some cases, tension) between philosophy and practice. There was Russell Kirk and Robert Nisbet, but also a James Q. Wilson and Thomas Sowell tying conservative principles to policy prescriptions on issues ranging from tax policy to the provision of social services. On this panel, participants will look at how public policy can actually consider the public, and encourage those points of connection so necessary in building social capital.
