This inspection was accompanied by significant wind, which kept us cool, but continually knocked everything over. There’s also a surprise visit from a small gremlin bringing us oil for the small hive beetle trap and the oil traps at the bottom of the stand. At the end of the last inspection, we added a deep box because they seemed to getting full on the bottom and I wasn’t sure how long we would be gone. They basically completely rejected it. A new box with very lightly waxed plastic frames - why would we touch that mom? Well, at the of this inspection I moved two frames of mostly uncapped brood up top. Look in the next video to see how it worked. Two frames of undrawn foundation were added to the bottom. We have continued to feed the bees a little and they completely went through their gallon of sugar syrup. They were given another gallon the next day as this apparently when the SC dearth starts and I want the colony to keep growing. What the camera misses - I know you are shocked the 8 yo’s attention span didn’t last - is that I tried to get the excess comb off the bottom of the last frame. I ended up dropping the frame and then quickly picked it up to replace it. I then checked the ground and guess who was there - the queen. She appeared unharmed and I returned her to the box. We can’t come back for three weeks, so we will see how it goes. Hopefully she will be ok.
