The Senate Family Care and Aging Committee dedicated a meeting Wednesday, February 20, to reviewing several proposals to address the frustrations vocalized by private, in-home child care providers. The measures, which will be considered as part of an omnibus day care bill, call upon the Department of Human Services to review rules and regulations enforced by county licensors that have adversely impacted the operations of the providers. According to Julie Seydel, Public Policy Director of the Minnesota Association of Child Care Professionals, one to two child care providers per day are closing their businesses. Addressing the child care shortage is a Senate priority during the 2019 session.
