1940s Camping Stove Restoration - From Ruin to Popcorn Subscribe for more satisfying and historical restorations: / @restoration.road.2024 This is one of the most satisfying restoration videos I’ve worked on so far. I found this rare Kosmos K60 camping stove at a flea market in Prague — rusted, broken, and with a destroyed brass fuel tank. What followed was a complete restoration, from disassembly and deep cleaning to brass soldering and final testing. If you enjoy ASMR restoration projects or just love seeing old tools brought back to life, this is the video for you. This full restoration video takes you through every step — from degreasing and sandblasting, to soldering, rebuilding, and finally testing. The goal? To bring this piece of forgotten gear back to its original functionality, including its unique ability to cook simple meals outdoors. Yes — it actually made popcorn at the end! ________________________________________ 🔧 About the Kosmos K60 Stove The Kosmos K60 is a portable alcohol camping stove, manufactured in 1944 in Czechoslovakia by a foundry specialized in cast iron and alcohol-based stoves. Compact, functional, and reliable, this stove was commonly used during the mid-20th century by campers and households without gas access. ________________________________________ 🔩 Restoration Process – Step by Step Disassembly Due to the brittle nature of aged brass, I carefully dismantled the burner. The fuel tank was extremely fragile and required extra caution. Cast Iron Base – Sandblasting & Refinement I sandblasted the base to remove rust and paint. Then, using a special cast iron rotary tool, I softened casting marks and sharp edges. After degreasing with isopropyl alcohol, I applied a high-temperature electrostatic coating, resistant up to 800°C. Fuel Tank – Rebuild & Reinforcement This was the most delicate stage. I separated the two halves of the fuel tank using an oxyacetylene flame, then reshaped them with precision brass-forming balls. The inner surfaces were thoroughly cleaned and tinned with solder to reinforce cracks and ruptures. Finally, I rejoined the two halves by soldering and polished the outer surface back to a smooth finish. Fuel System – Cleaning the Burner and Pipes I sandblasted the burner head and fuel pipes, then polished them using a wire brush to restore both function and shine. ________________________________________ 🔥 Final Test In the final step, I tested the burner using 90° alcohol, right in my workshop. It worked on the very first try. I heated a cast iron pot and made popcorn — proving that even after 80 years, this little stove still works perfectly. ________________________________________ 💬 Let’s Connect If you enjoy restoration videos, satisfying restorations, or the calming rhythm of a true ASMR restoration, this channel is for you.
