Hosted by Drew Tucker Jazz emerged in the early 20th century as a distinctly American musical genre, blending blues and ragtime, European band music and African rhythms. An improvisational focus has led to wide-ranging experimentation and adaptation to a diversity of influences, including opera and folk. In the Beyond Jazz - Part 1 showcase, host Drew Tucker presents a group of Performing Arts Discovery (PAD) jazz artists whose personal interpretations range from big band to vocal interpretation, melding musical influences from a diversity of cultural origins, musical forms and instrumentation.
