It originates at the lateral epicondyle of the femur and the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus of the knee joint. From there it runs mediodistally towards the tibia and inserts above the origin of the soleus muscle (the soleal line of the tibia). In the course it lies within a compact fascia between the popliteal fossa and the joint capsule secured by the arcuate popliteal ligament. The innervation is supplied by the tibial nerve (L5-S2). 0:18 Origin & insertion 0:47 Innervation 0:57 Functions/action Want to test your knowledge on popliteus muscle and other muscles of the knee and leg?
