While there are a variety of factors that can trigger a headache, the most common cause we see at the clinic is poor posture. Poor posture, especially during prolonged sitting, leads to a "forward head" position. Over time this causes a shortening of the muscles at the base of your skull, which we call your "suboccipital muscles." As these muscles tighten, they put pressure on the nerves in the area, and BAM! you have a headache! These headaches tend to start at the base of your skull with the sensation of tension, and they can then spread up and over your skull and into your forehead. Check out the video for a few more details, as well as some quick tips to reducing these headaches.
