I'd like to tell you a story about a great dog named Jax. He was a Cocker Spaniel/ Border Collie mix and was a special promise I made to my daughter. In 2005 the Army sent me to Iraq and I promised my daughter a dog when I came home. That's all she talked about for a year was that her daddy was going to get her a dog when he comes home. Well, I came home from Iraq in Oct of 06 and in November, I kept that promise to my little girl. We drove to Deridder LA one day to the animal shelter and found this little 3.2 lbs puppy. (His mother was hit and killed by a car and that's how he and the other puppies ended up at the shelter) Jax was a great fit for our family and my daughter was thrilled to finally have her puppy. My wife would go pickup the girls from school and he would ride in a shoebox. Jax was a good dog you could take anywhere. He loved car rides, popcorn, and rubbing his face in the Christmas tree. When we were relocated to Fort Sill Oklahoma we bought a house with a big back yard that Jax could run around in. He would wait in the front yard for his girl to come from school and as soon as he saw her walking down the side walk he would run to greet her. It was heart breaking watching him get older and not as agile as his younger self. As upset and hurt we all are over the loss of our dear friend, he brought us many more great memories to think back on and remember the great times we had with him.
