Filipino is the national language of the Philippines and serves as a standardized form of Tagalog, one of the country's major languages. It is based on Tagalog but incorporates elements from various Philippine languages, as well as foreign languages such as Spanish, English, and Chinese, reflecting the archipelago's diverse linguistic and cultural heritage. Filipino is used in government, education, and media, promoting national identity and unity among the Filipino people. As a language, it continues to evolve, adapting to modern influences while maintaining its roots in indigenous traditions. The Kalinga language is part of the Northern Luzon subgroup within the Austronesian language family, spoken by the Kalinga people in the Cordillera Mountains of Northern Luzon, Philippines. Kalinga itself is a collection of closely related dialects rather than a single, unified language, with dialects such as Butbut, Lubuagan, and Balbalan, which vary enough to sometimes be considered distinct languages. Rich in oral tradition, the Kalinga language preserves cultural knowledge, storytelling, and indigenous customs, often through songs and chants. With efforts toward preservation, Kalinga remains integral to the cultural identity of the Kalinga people, even as speakers increasingly become bilingual in Ilocano and Filipino.
