How to Plant a Tree: Part 1 Planting Your Tree the Right Way

In this video, we will cover planting your tree the Right Way. Steps on how to properly plant your tree: 1. Start with the planting hole that is as deep as the rootball and at least twice as wide. 2. Roll the tree into the hole. 3. Position the tree in the hole. You want the area where the roots meet the trunk to be at or slightly above the grown, that's called the root flare. It should be visible. This is the biggest mistake we see with people planting new trees too deep. If the tree came from a nursery in burlap, you are going to remove the burlap around the base of the trunk and top of the root ball. If it also has a wire cage around it, and you're going to want to remove it so the roots can more easily spread. If the tree came in a container, you would take the extra step to cut off any roots that are dead. If any roots are tangled, you would make several vertical cuts in the sides of the root ball and an x-shape cut in the bottom to loosen the roots.
