Last time, Ho-Oh was just the warm-up. Now we go all in. With full optimization in Pokémon HeartGold, how far can a single Lugia carry the run? Let’s find out. 🧄 Lugia's HGSS Learnset (Bulbapedia) 🧄 ► https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wi... 🏆 All solo runs playlist 🏆 ► • Pokémon Solo Run Challenges 🍤 Solo Run Rules: 🍤 1️⃣ Only the title Pokémon can be used in battle. No switching; HM Pokémon are required. 2️⃣ All double battles are eliminated by having code faint all of my other party members. You still have to double battle with Lance in the hideout. 3️⃣ No items in battle (Potions, TMs, etc. allowed outside battle). 4️⃣ Double Team (TM32), Attract (TM45), and Toxic (TM06) are banned. Natural learning of these are allowed. These create (almost) universal strategies that are either stall based, luck based, or are generally boring to play or watch. More could be added in the future. 5️⃣ Gameplay is at 3x speed. Rankings are based on in-game time and resets. The formula I use can be found below. 6️⃣ The round 2 Elite Four is not a mandatory part of my run. My general rule is that if it isn't part of the speedrun, it isn't part of my runs. I personally don't find ANOTHER round of the Elite Four to be that compelling and making a long game even longer isn't appealing to me. 7️⃣ I'm in the process of reverse engineering some Action Replay codes. None are in as of yet. 🍕 Base ROM/QoL Adjustments: 🍕 1️⃣ HM users are guaranteed to spawn and catch. The idea is simulate the manips from the speedrun and to avoid wasting my time because I'd just restart if a Pokemon broke out of 6 balls anyway. 2️⃣ IVs, Hidden Power type, ability, and nature are chosen by me to allow for more consistent routing. We are seeing the best possible version of the Pokémon in these videos. 3️⃣ There are no erratic spinners in this game but there are trainers that look randomly in certain directions. They have been patched to remove the need to slow down the gameplay. They will still catch you if you use the running shoes though. 4️⃣ Voltorb Flip is very polarizing as it is the only way to get coins. Internal game data allows me to see the solution to the puzzle and I'll have an indicator on the screen. You still have to put in the time to solve the board to build up the coins so there is a trade off and the difference between a Pokémon that wants 30,000 coins worth of items and Pokémon that only needs 2,000 is a solid amount of time. 5️⃣ The days of the week siblings are available all of the time. It isn't compelling gameplay to wait until Thursday to get the Hard Stone and keeping vanilla behavior means...you just don't get to use several held items and less options means it is a more boring run. 6️⃣ The Goldenrod Department Store 'lottery' where you can get TMs, balls, and berries is now a simple 'pay to get what you want' system. This is the same thought process as the days of the week held items and doesn't change the game much. 7️⃣ I allow the use of save states in the overworld. I will not punish myself and my limited free time because I forgot the wrong move, bought the wrong item, or made a silly overworld mistake. 💸 Support the Channel! 💸 ► Patreon: / gymleadermatt ► YouTube Membership: / @gymleadermatt1987 #Lugia #PokemonChallenge #pokemonheartgold #speedrun 0:00 - Intro 2:19 - Falkner (1st Gym) 5:22 - Bugsy (2nd Gym) 10:00 - Whitney (3rd Gym) 13:28 - Morty (4th Gym) 15:16 - Chuck, Brother (5th Gym) 17:19 - Pryce / Jasmine (6th and 7th Gym) 21:45 - Clair (8th Gym) 27:08 - Elite Four Start 30:45 - Kanto Start 39:00 - Red Battle 42:10 - Results: How fast was Lugia?
