In this case, the patient presents with valgus deformity. The surgeon notes that there is intercompartmental imbalance and excessive, lateral tension during extension. Using a size 11 blade, the surgeon chooses to release the posterior-lateral portion of the capsule. The surgeon checks his loading in extension, and notes that the medial and lateral compartments are now balanced. When the knee is taken through a range of motion, symmetrical rollback is also noted.
